Stargazing
I'm so excited to share this fun finish!! A few years ago, I bought the book Quilting from Little Things by Sarah Fielke. I immediately decided I NEEDED to make the Stars in Your Eyes quilt. It's strip pieced and you need twelve sets of five strips. I went through my stash (which was smaller then) and cut all my strips. Then I read the directions. Two words: templates and y-seams. Or is that two and a half words?? Well, I stowed away the strips for another day. Fast forward to this summer. I really wanted this quilt; I've wanted it from the moment I saw it!! I rewrote the pattern to be more my style (read: template free) and embraced y-seam piecing. And here we are! Finished!!
I love all the scrappy colors! Plus, it's interesting to see how I paired fabrics a few years ago; I know I'd make some different choices now. Mostly because I have way more options!!
This is my favorite star. I'm not usually that much of a blue person, but I love it! That's one happy star. The borders on my version are slightly wider. I knew I'd be using the end of these dots, so I just figured out what was left and divided by how many widths of fabric I needed. The contrast of the skinny border with the wide border makes a nice frame!
My blue flowers were a smidge short on the back. Paging pearl bracelets...my go to quilt label fabric. And stripy binding! (Channeling Red Pepper Quilts!)
I quilted this baby myself. I did swirly infinities. It was a great quilt to practice on because the quilting hides in the prints.
Are you in love? I hope so! I'm already looking forward to this being on my bed! If you're loving it and wanting to join in the fun, I'm teaching it at Sew Original starting this Sunday. There are a 1-2 spots left. Email me if you're interested!xo LC
