Terrific Tip Tuesday: Tap Water

I don’t tend to use water in my iron. I prefer keeping it dry and using a spray bottle. However, I do love some steam when I’m pressing a quilt back. But this post isn’t even about the great steam vs dry debate...it’s about another great debate, distilled water vs tap water.

Distilled water is pure water. Typically it has been boiled to a vapor to remove the impurities. Pure sounds great, right? Well, not always for your iron. Because it’s so pure, it can actually cause a breakdown in the iron. Oliso has a great bit of information on it here. But basically, you’re better off with tap water. If you have extremely hard water, you can mix tap water with distilled water fifty/fifty. And now everyone can return to the steam vs dry iron debate!
