Want to (virtually) go to California? Let's hit the Road!
Road to California is one of my favorite big quilt shows! There's an epic vendor mall and the quilts are spectacular. There are so many workshops that you can barely choose which one to sign up for. They are bringing the workshop portion online with Road@Home so that you can join the fun virtually this May.
If you're hesitant to take an online class, it really is fun! I've noticed that students actually accomplish so much more at home- you have your whole stash and all your tools. There's no packing or unloading involved! I have my studio set up with lots of cameras so you can see everything clearly. It's kind of like having a front row seat to every workshop!
Here are the classes that I'm offering. There are kits and patterns available in my shop. Please let me know if you have any questions. I am teaching three classes and offering two lectures. I'd love to see you there! Enrollment ends for some workshops May 7.
Making a Dresden Workshop: The dresden can seem like an intimidating block, but we will break it down so it seems simple. This class will explore all aspects of dresden construction. We will start with fabric selection and the how-tos of cutting a dresden. Students will learn tips for stitching the dresden wedges, as well as constructing the dresden block. Multiple types of appliqué will be demonstrated, including blind machine, decorative machine and hand appliqué. We will focus on one block from the May Chappell Georgia's Dresden or Blooming Dresden pattern. Students will also learn about setting blocks on point. Best for confident beginners or more experienced quilters looking to expand their dresden skills. Check out more here!
Blue Ridge Flying Geese Workshop: Let the geese fly! This class will focus on perfecting your flying geese units. You will learn lots of tips to create accurate geese. Multiple techniques and trimming tools will be demonstrated, but the bloc loc is recommended. Using the May Chappell Blue Ridge pattern, you will also learn about attaching flying geese to one another and keeping the points aligned. The kit includes fabric to construct a table runner, but you may work on any size quilt. Check out more here!
Understanding the Rainbow Workshop: Anyone intimidated by fabric selection? We will discuss the basics of color theory and how those concepts lead to better quilts! Students will leave armed with many tools for choosing colors and ideas for expanding their color palettes. Class will start with a lecture consisting of a full trunk show exploring different aspects of color theory in quilts. Then students will make a dresden color wheel. They will learn all the steps to make a dresden, from fabric selection to cutting to piecing. Multiple types of appliqué will be demonstrated, including blind machine, decorative machine and hand appliqué. Perfect for all level sewists; basic piecing skills required. Check out more here!
Understanding the Rainbow: Applying Color Theory Lecture: The lecture version of the workshop! This lecture will encourage attendees to explore different color combinations and expand beyond their frequently chosen ones. You will leave armed with many tools for building your colors for a quilt. Perfect for all skill levels. Check out more here!
Tips of the Trade: Perfecting Piecing Lecture: Why didn’t I think of that?! This lecture is packed full of tips, tricks and tools to make your stitching faster, easier and more precise. Step up your piecing game! There will be TONS of ideas, new and old, focusing on improving techniques. Attendees will learn multiple ways to create block elements with the basics: half-square triangles, flying geese and square in a square. We will talk about making these elements and stitching them to one another to keep those points perfect. This lecture is perfect for all skill levels! Check out more here!
I taught with Road@Home in January and we had the best time! I'm really looking forward to May.
