Rudolph Wall Hanging TUTORIAL

It's week 8 of the TWELVE WEEKS OF CHRISTMAS!Welcome to everyone from Bluprint Textiles. This week, we're making a Rudolph Wall Hanging! He could very easily become a pillow if your heart desires:) He's a fun, mod little guy...20121113-185530.jpg1. Fabric: You'll need a 12 1/2" x 12 1/2" white piece for the background, a 9" x 9" brown piece for Rudolph, three 1 1/2" x wof (width of fabric) strips one each in pink, lime and aqua for the border, two 2 1/2" x wof red strips for red binding, five 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" red squares for the nose and corners (you can cut these squares from one of the strips for binding), and an 18" x 18" piece for backing. You will also need an 18" x 18" piece of batting, 1/4 yard of steam-a-seam (or similar), and black top-stitching thread. I used Sulky 12 wt.20121113-072456.jpg2. Rudolph: First print Rudolph. You will need to trace Rudolph onto the steam-a-seam.20121113-065658.jpgStick the steam-a-seam to the back of the fabric. Note: steam-a-seam does not require ironing for this stage, but some interfacing does.20121113-073534.jpgCut out Rudolph and his nose. Be careful to have smooth edges.20121113-073729.jpgPlace Rudolph and press. Follow the pressing instructions on the interfacing.20121113-074158.jpg3. Making the Border: Take the 1 1/2" strips and cut them all in half. And then cut them in half again. They should all be at least 10 1/4" long. Arrange them like so.20121113-074942.jpgSew together with 1/4" seams and press to one side.20121113-080555.jpgTrim into four 2 1/2" strips.20121113-080612.jpgAttach the top and bottom strips.20121113-172603.jpgPress away from the white.20121113-172622.jpgSew two red squares on each remaining border strip.20121113-172613.jpgSew on the remaining side borders.20121113-173911.jpg4. Blanket Stitch: You can do this by hand or on your machine. One guess for which one I did! Machine. First pin or baste your top, batting and backing.20121113-175454.jpgOn Bert, the blanket stitch is #25. It looks like this.20121113-184712.jpgSew with the blanket stitch around Rudolph and his nose.20121113-184720.jpgFor the border, I widened the stitch to five.20121113-184731.jpgStitch around the edge of the white by the border.20121113-184742.jpgIt will look like this.20121113-184759.jpgPut on the binding (and a hanging sleeve if you like!) and you're done!20121113-184831.jpgLet me know if you have any questions!! Happy Rudolph making:)xo LC
