SO in Love with Solids

I love sewing with solids! But I definitely find sewing with only solids to be a challenge. Well...Sew Original put everyone to the test! They had a challenge where you had to use twelve solids and make a quilt. Because I teach there, I'm not eligible to win, but I still like to participate:) This is what I made!

20130418-193815.jpgI practiced my free motion quilting in each bar. Some were more successful than others.

20130418-193836.jpgI had this genius (ridiculous) idea to have all my binding be the same color as the quilt and blend. It was not the most fun binding to make.

20130418-193843.jpgI'll take more pictures when I get it back. It was already hanging before I took any pictures. This quilt was heavily inspired by a quilt by Angela Walters. My quilty friend Gina made this gorgeous version.I used double batting in this one and...never again! I hated it. It is just not for me. It was bulky and cumbersome. And the finished quilt is in dire need of blocking. And it's not square. It's not even in the neighborhood of square. And I blame the batting...the top was square. Live and learn! So, back to the solids challenge at SO! They're fifteen entries! They're all hanging in the classroom. And they are amazing. I photographed all of them, no favoritism here. You can go by and vote!! One vote per day per person:) I've gone everyday this week! I love how different they are. I am constantly amazed by the talent in this area!!
