Carolyn Friedlander!!
Friday night I headed to Thimble Pleasures in Chapel Hill for the CAROLYN FRIEDLANDER TRUNK SHOW! I'm sure you're imagining it was amazing, but you need to multiply what you're thinking by ten!! First of all, she's delightful! She's one of the sweetest people I've ever met and her quilting is to die for. This quilt is Focal! I love the concept of ramped up borders. She said she was inspired by rugs.
This tote is from her Botanics pattern. It is a versatile pattern with all these different uses. Carolyn is definitely into the appliqué scene!
I'm obsessed with the piping up the edges. I love piping all the time, but this is especially awesome!!
And these pillows! Want!! Her appliqué and handwork are stellar!
And another fabulous pillow with appliqué. Carolyn loves this flame orange and so do I! It works with everything!
Here is her Tangelo quilt! This one is in my near future. A scrappy color study. I can't wait!!
This little house is from her Local pattern. She likes to make one block and do a little mini. I want little house placemats!!
This is the Olive pattern. It's also on my to make list:)
And my favorite!! The shirts!! They're so completely adorable! I just love them. And they're charm friendly which is great. Standby later this week for a big Shirt related announcement! I hope you're intrigued because it's going to be epic. (Sorry for the closed eye pic!)
And this is Park! Another versatile appliqué pattern. Carolyn has a love of handwork that's infectious!
The trunk show was extremely inspiring! And I left with a much longer to do list than I came with! I was secretly hoping she had bolts of her new line Botanics, but that didn't happen. On Saturday, Carolyn taught a workshop with her Grove pattern. My pal Nicole and I both signed up!
Carolyn had tons of great pointers for paper piecing! Learned lots!! Her philosophy of just sewing on a patch when your piece doesn't quite cover will save me some seam ripping in the future!
I decided on sunset colored fabrics with Moda cross weave. I really wanted a darker color but that texture was perfect! I chain pieced so I worked on three during class:)
And my finished product! (Worst. Lighting. Ever.)
I'm excited to keep working on this one!! Thanks to Thimble Pleasures for organizing such a great weekend! And thanks to Carolyn for making it such fun!! She's a great teacher and if she is in your area, you should definitely take her class!
After class, we headed to Acme for yummy dinner and more good times!
I wish every weekend could be as full of quilty wonderfulness as this one was!!xo LC
