Going Boho
Today is my day on the Boho Embroidery stitch along! Nichole Vogelsinger just released her second book, Boho Embroidery: The Pattern Collection and it's another delightful journey of eye candy. For real, Nichole is a magician with thread. There are so many stunning patterns in the book. I couldn't decide which one to do! I knew I wanted to go mountain inspired; I LOVE the mountains. I was torn between these two beauties.I went blues and greens for my fabric pull. Plus a nice glowing moon;)I wanted my mountains to be a bit more gentle and North Carolina like. I just made the peaks more shallow. I reduced the pattern by 60% because my cute wooden hoop was smaller. Nichole has all the patterns neatly drawn the back of the book so that you can enlarge/reduce/customize to your hearts content.Ready for stitching! I always feel like I've prepped a canvas when I get to this stage. My thread collection is not as extensive as I wish it to be. I did pull out the big guns with some of my coveted Alison Glass Weeks Dye Works floss and hoarded Wonderfil sparkle thread. There are tons of awesome stitching lessons in this book (and I revisited her first book, Boho Embroidery). I am most proud of this!! I can't believe how easy it was and how amazing it looks. I will be Lattice Stitching everything now!! I basically felt like a thread master after I did it. Throughout the book, Nichole offers so many tips to Boho it up that you'll feel like you can do anything. All stitched! I ended up deciding to have my mountains bleed off the edge of the hoop. Honestly, I accidentally got interfacing on the edge and my moon was already attached, so it was a decision based on moon preservation. But I'm really happy with the look!! Win! Win!! Nichole also has a great chapter in the book about designing from you own inspirations, so I went with that.Blue Ridge is now hanging in my art nook! If you want to expand your hand stitching prowess or just gaze at some stitched up masterpieces, check out Nichole's books. Shop local:) And if you ever see one of her classes near you, take it! I had the pleasure of doing a workshop with her at Quilt Con and it was a highlight!xo LC
