Washcloth Travel Roll TUTORIAL

This tutorial came about in a fun way! The Guru aka my Mom is the Community Chair for our guild. She has monthly drives to collect supplies in addition to coordinating the quilts made by guild members to support our chosen group, Senior Services. She wanted to make something for the holiday drive and someone told her about a washcloth toothbrush roll, but the pattern/tutorial/random picture on the internet was nowhere to be found. So I created one for her. And then I thought, this would be a great guest gift, send a kid to camp gift, donate to the homeless mission, et cetera, so here we are.Make sure you read through each step fully before completing it. Supplies: You'll need a washcloth, coordinating fabric, Pellon SF101 or similar woven middleweight interfacing (Cut both fabric and interfacing to the size of the washcloth.) and one yard of ribbon. The washcloth I used measures approximately 12 1/2 x 13".Cutting & Pressing: Cut the tag off the washcloth. Press the interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric. This pressed piece should be the same size as the washcloth.Step 1: Lay fabric and washcloth right sides together.Starting 1/2" from the top, stitch along the edge of the washcloth's ribbing. Backstitch at the beginning to lock your stitches.Stop 1/2" from the bottom. Backstitch at the end to lock your stitches.Step 2: Roll up the washcloth. Bring the fabric around the washcloth roll to the edge you just stitched.Pin the edge. Stitch just outside of your previous stitch. Start 1/2" from the top and finish 1/2" from the bottom. You should backstitch at the beginning and end as well.Step 3: Turn the project right side out.Tuck in the 1/2" of fabric on the ends. Press.Neatly press the full piece. It should look like this.Step 4: Find the center both vertically and horizontally of the washcloth and place pins. Place the ribbon just below the horizontal center and vertically centered.Attach for approximately 1". I used a decorative stitch, but you could also do a few rows of straight stitching.Pin the ribbon neatly out of your way. You don't want to accidentally stitch it in the next step.Step 5: Fold the fabric up so it rests on the washcloth. Using a marking pen of your choice, mark a line 2 3/4" from the right edge.Mark another line 3 1/2" to the left of the first line.Step 6: Topstitch along the lines you marked.Stitch 1/4" from the edge on each end as well. I added my label here.Step 7: Fill up your roll!Fold the top edge of your washcloth down to contain the items and roll it up! Fray check the ends of the ribbon. You're done!Happy gifting!xx LC
